Immersive audio imitates natural soundscapes by doing two things: simulating how sounds can come from any direction and responding to changes your spatial orientation. It lets you hear up and down" just like a VR headset allows you to look up and down. And when you move your head while wearing immersive audio-enabled earphones, the entire sonic field adjusts to your new position. So instead of surround sound's flat, 2D, unresponsive sonic circle, immersive audio places you inside of a spatially dynamic sonic sphere.

Immersive audio in movies makes you feel as if you're physically present in the scene that you're watching. Film producers can recreate the aural experience of standing in a forest, battlefield, spaceship or any place they want to take you. In a 3D gaming environment, you can hear where the other players are even when they're off screen. Even dance clubs are using immersive audio sound systems, creating whole new experiences where sounds can fly around a room. In these ways, immersive audio is opening up new possibilities for groundbreaking, more dynamic and lifelike storytelling experiences.
