很久很以前,有隻小瓷兔住在埃及街的一房子裡。

小瓷兔的耳朵是用真的兔毛做成的,一如他柔軟蓬鬆的尾巴。

小瓷兔從耳朵頂端到腳尖,將近有一公尺高。

他的眼睛是豔藍色。

他的名字叫愛德華;他擁有一整櫃絲套裝和一隻金色懷錶。

愛德華為阿比林所有,阿比林對著愛德華說話,仿佛他是真的人一樣。

有一天,阿比林一家搭船前往英國。

有兩個男孩從甲板的座椅一把抓起愛德華,開始拋來拋去。

不久,愛德華的懷滾落到甲板上,接著愛德華從船上掉進了水裡!

愛德華撞擊水面後一路往下沈,沈到了海底。

兩百九十七天之後,一場暴風雨將愛德華送進一個漁夫的漁網裡。

漁夫把愛德華帶回家給太太,漁夫太太將愛德華照顧無微不至。

但他們成年的女兒回到家中時,卻對父母照料一隻瓷兔子感到極為反感,

她把愛德華丟進垃圾桶,然後扔到垃圾堆。
