Where Do Food Names Come From?
‧Popsicle冰棒
An 11-year-old boy, Frank Epperson, made the first Popsicle by accident in 1905.
He forgot a cup outside with flavored soda, water, and a stick in it.
The soda froze during the night.
They looked like icicles.
The treats were called "Eppsicles," and later Epperson changed the name to "Popsicles."
‧Sandwich
John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich第四代三明治伯爵, lived in the 1700s.
He liked to play card games打牌.
During a game, he asked for some meat between two pieces of bread.
He could hold it in one hand and eat without stopping the game.
Other people then called this snack a "sandwich."

Doughnut
The Dutch first fried balls of sweet dough in oil in the mid-1800s.
These cooked quickly, but the middles stayed raw.
People would then put nuts inside because they didn't need to be cooked.
Doughnuts got their ring shape in 1847.
An American, Hanson Gregory, cut holes in doughnuts' middles to remove the parts that stayed raw.
This made doughnuts cook evenly均勻地.
‧Caesar Salad
This salad isn't named after Julius Caesar.
An Italian restaurant owner, Caesar Cardini, first made it in Mexico in 1924.
His restaurant ran out of most of its food on a busy holiday weekend.
Cardini made a popular new salad with a few things in the kitchen. 道膾炙人口的新料理
