Search-and-Rescue (SAR) Dogs

All manner of heroes exist. They come in all shapes and sizes, and some seem to have superpowers. Most people would like to have heroes with superpowers handy when natural disasters occur or anyone goes missing. Enter SAR dogs, who help in many rescue situations.
As puppies they usually play hide-and-seek with their handlers, who gradually add spoken commands and praise the puppies when successful. During this time, the dogs work on developing the obedience, endurance and determination needed to succeed. At about 18 months old, they begin the official process of becoming certified with their handlers.
SAR dogs train to locate people in one of three ways. One way is to follow scents in the air to locate humans in general. The other ways are more specific. SAR dogs train to follow tracks along the ground, or they learn to trail a specific scent no matter where it leads.
Avalanche searches
Avalanche rescue dogs fly in helicopters, ride on snowmobiles and ski down mountainsides on their handler's shoulders. Upon hearing the word "search," they take off through deep snow, sniffing for human scent. They begin digging where the scent is the strongest.

We might call that person a handyman.
However, I also think of something that is very useful in the moment.

But what do you think of when you think of something handy?
When I think of handy, yeah, I would think of something that's useful, or I would think of a handyman.
That's someone who could fix something or make anything that they choose.
They're handy to have around.
They are usually good at fixing things around the house like changing light bulbs or fixing things when they break or even maybe fixing the plumbing.
Now we usually call someone a handyman if it's someone that we know and maybe their job is not an official like plumber or repairman or something.
Like, for example, someone in your family might just be really good at fixing things, and you could say, "Oh, I'm so glad he or she is around. She is our handyman or handywoman," right?
