Bringing English to those who lack resources
用英語「創意教材」成功跨越「城鄉距離」
空中英語教室創辦人彭蒙惠老師在二○一三年前往臺東旅行時，看到一件令人相當憂心的事。
臺灣偏鄉地區的英語師資嚴重短缺。
獲得分派到偏鄉地區的教師經常在幾年之後便離開；意味著偏鄉地區的學生在英語學習方面嚴重落後。
彭老師一瞭解問題原委，便返回臺北決心找出協助方法。
她要求空英一組團隊製作適合偏鄉學生的英語教材。
彭老師希望能有一套可以在沒有英語教師的情況下就能使用的教材。
結果就是催生出：《Lucy Says英語創意教材》；一套易於使用、操作技術簡單的英語學習系統，透過遊戲、歌 曲、對話教導基礎英語。
二○一五年時，空中英語教室正式推出這套教材；提供給嘉義、花蓮及其周邊地區四十一所偏鄉小學使用。
從那時起，很多該區域的課後輔導活動也都開始使用這套教材。
When Studio Classroom founder Doris Brougham took a trip to Taitung in 2013, she noticed something disturbing. The rural areas had a severe shortage of English teachers. Teachers who had been assigned to rural areas were leaving after a few years. That meant rural students were falling behind in English.
Upon learning about the problem, Brougham returned to Taipei resolved to find a way to help. She asked a team to create English materials suitable for rural students.
She wanted materials that could be used in the absence of English teachers. The result: the Lucy Says learning system. This easy-to-use, low-tech English learning system teaches basic English through games, songs and conversations. In 2015 Studio Classroom rolled out the product. They provided it to 41 rural elementary schools in and around Chiayi and Hualien. Since then, many afterschool programs in these areas have started to use this product as well.
