深海先驅- 一席薇亞厄爾（2-1-上）

史上最受敬重的海洋科學家之一「要是我們...把海洋當成對人類生死攸關的要素，會怎樣?抑或者，要是我們不這麼認為，那又會怎樣?」

舉世聞名的海洋生物學家席薇厄爾向世界各地團體組織提出她現在已經相當出名的「要是... ...」問題。

厄爾鼓勵激發大家思考如何協助拯救海洋。

1998年，《時代雜誌》評厄爾為該刊首位「地球英雄」。

厄爾十二歲時搬遷到佛州西岸，自此展開她持續一生的熱情。

她說:「我最初就是在那裡愛上了大海。」在那裡，她恣意探索了水面上以及水底下的世界。

一九五三年，這位年輕科學家利用新研發的裝備，成為自己所屬領域中率先進行水肺潛水的人之一。

後來厄爾將水肺潛水描述成一種美妙方式，能讓人不用和水有任何連結就可以逐漸熟悉水底下的魚類。

厄爾首次長時間進行深海研究作業是在一九七o年，當時她帶領一支完全女性組的研究團隊進行海洋研究。
