The New Space Race

Space tourism is no longer just science fiction

Where exactly do space tourists go?

That depends. A "space shot" takes visitors 85 to 100 kilometers above Earth for approximately five minutes. From there they can see the curve of the earth and hover in weightlessness. A trip into orbit takes the curious over 400 kilometers up into space to visit the International Space Station (ISS)!

How much does it cost?

A space shot: US$250,000

A trip to the ISS: US$55 million

What about training?

To prepare for a trip, a person rides in a special airplane that simulates weightlessness and practices tolerating high acceleration by spinning in a centrifuge.

What's it like to see Earth from space?

It's incomparably profound and constantly magnificent, according to ISS Commander Chris Hadfield: "I've been around the world 2,650 times or so, and I never once could see enough of it. ... My last orbit of the world was even more rich and magnificent and awe-inspiring than all of the ones before it."

Prohibitive as the price tag is, space hotels and moon tours are heading out of science fiction and into reality. Who knows what the future will bring?

that depends/ it depends取決於;看情況

When Blake asked Alice to dinner she replied, "That denends on where vou want to eat "

When a student asks Mrs. Nordvedt if their answer is correct or not, she always answers, "It depends," before asking a further question.

Chloe asked her mother if she could go to a party, and her mom answered, "That all depends on who is going to be there."
