HOW FASHIONS CHANGE
Fashion trends come and go and then come again
Not all fashion trends come and go. Some stay constant. Denim jeans, for example,
never go out of style. Their appearance just changes. Bell-bottoms turn into wide
legs which turn into tight skinny jeans or skinny jeans with rips. Then they turn into
bell-bottoms again.
The life of a fashion trend is called the fashion cycle. There are five stages: the introduction, the rise, the peak, the decline and the outdated. There is no determined time period for this cycle. The internet in many cases, though, has sped it up. A designer introduces a new style. People post pictures of themselves wearing the style, introducing more people to it. The peak comes when almost everyone is wearing it. When
people tire of it and look for something
new, the decline begins. Finally, the
fashion is outdated when the style is
criticized as being "so last year."
But you should save those outdated
clothes! That style will be back in 20 to
30 years.
