某一個星期四，瑪蒂連的朋友拉溫德把蝶螈放進川契布爾小姐的水杯。
川契布爾小姐大怒之下責怪瑪蒂達。
瑪蒂連很生氣，結果意外發現自己可以用意念移動物品；於是她集中念力打翻了杯子，直接把榮源和水全都倒在川契布爾小姐的身上。
哈妮小姐目睹事情的經過，於是邀請瑪蒂達到她的小屋討論她的超能力。
在小屋時，哈妮小姐談到自己雙親過世以及必須和殘忍的阿姨同住的事。
她的阿姨奪走她父親所有的錢和他的房子。
然後，哈妮小姐表示川契布爾小姐就是她那個可怕的阿姨！
瑪蒂達想出一個計策要幫助哈妮小姐。
隔遇，川契布爾小姐前來授課時，瑪蒂達用意念拿起粉筆；在黑板上寫下一段嚴厲陰森的信息，結果川契布爾小姐以為那是出自於哈妮小姐去世的父親。
川契布爾小姐非常驚恐害怕，因此逃離小鎮再也沒有回來。
哈妮小姐拿回父親的房子和錢，而且還和瑪蒂達成了好朋友。
瑪蒂達順利跳級，不過卻失去了自己的超能力，因為現在她的心思都花在面對課業的挑戰了。
One Thursday, Matilda's friend Lavender puts a newt in Miss Trunchbull's water glass. Incensed, Miss Trunchbull blames Matilda. Matilda becomes angry and unexpectedly finds she can move things with her mind. She tips over the glass with her new powers, and it pours out onto Miss Trunchbull, newt and all.
Miss Honey sees what happened and invites Matilda to her cottage to discuss her powers. While there, Miss Honey talks about her parents' deaths and having to live with her cruel aunt. The aunt took all her father's money and his house. Then Miss Honey reveals that Miss Trunchbull is that horrible aunt!
Matilda comes up with a plan to help.
The following week when Miss Trunchbull arrives to teach, Matilda picks up a piece of chalk using her mind. It writes a grim message on the board which Miss Trunchbull thinks is from Miss Honey's dead father. She becomes so scared that she leaves town and never returns. Miss Honey gets her father's house and money back, and she and Matilda become good friends. Matilda moves to a higher grade but loses her powers because she now has schoolwork that challenges her.
