WORKING AT THE OFFICE OR AT HOME
Where would you rather work?
Joan:Did you have access to all the information you needed? Some people I know had difficulty getting information when they only worked from home.
Robert:My department has an online platform where we can find anything we need wherever we are.
Joan:That's great. But you know, when I started working from
home, I felt overworked. I thought everyone was working nonstop, so I did, too. I never took breaks. I even felt guilty about eating lunch.
Robert:I felt that way at first, but I discussed it with my manager. He ended up hiring some more people to help. You need to take time for yourself and your family.
Joan:I guess. Some people think that people won't work very hard from home, but it's actually the opposite. I've heard that people work harder from home, too. And people like not having to commute.
Robert:Yeah. Some statistics showed that over 83 percent of people now want the ability to work from home. I've read that some companies are in favor of people working from home, too.
Joan:I know. I read that a company in Shanghai reported saving about US$2,000 a month on rent.
And people's productivity increased as well. It was and still is a win-win arrangement.
Robert:I guess working remotely has advantages, eh?

platform vs. app
Now a platform is different than an app or a website.
A platform is usually a very specific website or a very specific, um, platform like a social media platform, and everyone gets their information from that place.
Now, of course, these platforms can have related apps, and most of them do, like Facebook has its own app, Telegram has its own app or Discord has its own app, right?
overwork(ed)
workaholic n.
manager vs. supervisor
Now if you have someone above you who is kind of responsible for the work that you do and you have to report to that person, usually I would say that's a supervisor.
And a manager is usually over the supervisor, correct?
So it goes manager, supervisor, and then the employee.

prefer
a win-win agreetment
It's hard for me to choose between working from home or working from an office because, really, I would like to have a mixture of both.
And the biggest benefit of that is freedom.
If I'm working from home, then I don't have to just work at home.
I could also work in a café or on a beach or some other place where I feel inspired and able to focus.
But if I also have the freedom to go to the office now and then, then I can see my other coworkers.
Maybe we can have a meeting, or there might be some project that I need to be next to them in order to do.
So I think, for me, the biggest benefit of having a mix of both is freedom.
So what I think the biggest benefit of working from home is... that you have no commute time.
So I feel like the most frustrating thing for people who work is the commute.
Sometimes you're on a [an] MRT for over an hour, or some people take the train into the city.
Or even just having to like get up really early to be able to go to work is sometimes really hard for people.
Um.
I had a friend who took a train into the city every day, and her commute was like an hour and a half.
And so without this commute time, I just find that your life is so much more convenient.
I really like to work in an office setting.
I like to be around other people.
