THE CRAZY ATTRACTION OF CLAW MACHINES

Who doesn't like a claw machine?

rigged, manipulated

it’s always going to have the same outcome Or that the machine has been manipulated in some way so that it doesn't do what you want it to do when you want it to.

Cheers come from the people staring into a large clear box filled with prizes. Someone has used the box's mechanical arm to lift and release a prize into the chute. But it's not the prize that matters; it's the hard-won success that's being celebrated. Claw machines are known for being reluctant to give up their prizes.

The claw machine, as we know it, made its debut in the U.S. in the 1930s. Its popularity spread around the country and then extended to other parts of the world. Several islands in Asia that have been taken by storm are Japan, Singapore and Taiwan.

In Japan almost every comic or cartoon has a scene with the characters playing the machine. This has spilled over into real life with students and workers occupying themselves with the activity. Since 2020 in Taiwan, claw-machine arcades have appeared where businesses have closed. Similarly, Singapore has seen a rise in the number of arcades that contain only claw machines. While some say it's easy to become addicted, others say it is only for fun. But most agree that the claw is here to say.
