A visual language that spreads happiness
Alegria
aesthetic /aesthetics
Why did Alegria art become popular so quickly? There are many reasons. As websites depended on illustrations to fill space, Alegria-type art became increasingly useful. The style is flat, simple and easy to create. By comparison, more detailed art designs require extra time, skill and money to produce. Businesses also love the fact that Alegria's characters celebrate diversity by featuring international cultural events. The
illustrations convey good feelings. Those feelings help people believe they can trust the companies that feature them on their pages.
For some consumers, though, that's a problem. These people think companies like Facebook have simply papered over their problems with positive images. They've failed to address their scandals or make lasting changes.
For many, however, Alegria is a nice visual language that represents happiness. From children hugging to couples dancing, the images are all about positive energy. All in all, it seems that Alegria is the perfect name for this playful, fun art style.

If you depend on something like these websites depend on illustrations, that means they're relying on them or counting on them or placing a lot of importance on them.
to fill space vs. take up space
I get the idea that these companies are wanting their websites to be more than just
plain text. so they’re using illustrations around the borders to fill the space. So filling up space sounds like it's more of a positive thing.
Like if you want to fill up some of the blank space on your website with interesting illustrations, that sounds like it could make your website look more interesting.
If something or someone is taking up space, it means they're filling a spot that could be better used for something else. So if there's an illustration that's taking up
space, it means it's maybe in the way or not
really very useful.
