Every seashell has a story."
Where should you search? Seashells turn up on beaches all over the globe. Popular shelling beaches range from Australia to South Africa to America. Sanibel Island, Florida, has been called, "The Seashell Capital of the World." The ocean leaves behind millions of shells, including around 275 species, on Sanibel's boomerang-shaped coastline.
On every beach, carefully search through the brown sea grass that the waves deposited. You never know what might be hidden there.
Knowing where to look is important, but knowing when to look is half the battle.
Search from 1 ½ hours before low tide to 12 hours after low tide. Surprisingly, the very best time to find seashells is after a hurricane or typhoon. Storms often blow in an enormous number of shells. If you would rather not disturb the shells you find, take pictures. This allows you to still appreciate their beauty and build a great photo collection.
On your next beach trip, why not spend some time searching for treasures from the sea?
