POOR RICHARD'S ALMANACK
Benjamin Franklin published advice for wise living for 25 years
Franklin called his book Poor Richard's Almanack because he had great sympathy
for common people. He geared his almanac toward them and used "poor" in the title to better identify with them.
Franklin knew what it was like to be poor. He was the tenth of 17 children of a poor man who made soap and candles. Franklin had to make his way in the world. The title also pointed to Franklin's Puritan roots. Puritans linked working hard to overcome poverty and earning money with virtue, which is a common theme in Franklin's almanac.
He told people that "lost time is never found again." He taught them "Wise men learn by other's harms, fools by their own," and "well done is better than well said." Franklin himself did many things well. He was not only a writer and publisher, but also an inventor and a diplomat.
Now, 290 years later, people still look to Franklin's wisdom and advice on how to live well. He believed that anyone who worked hard enough could be successful, and the sayings in his almanac reflect that.

sympathy vs. empathy
A sympathy card is something that you usually send when you have a friend who maybe had a parent or someone like that pass away
產生empathy(同理)的人可能說”I’ve been there.” 產生sympathy(同情)的人可能說”I feel so bad for you.”(替你感到難過。)
He sent a sympathy card to the coworker who just had an operation.(他寫了慰問卡給開完刀的同事。)
a sympathy card、a sympathy message是慣用說法。
The author has the ability to make you feel empathy towards his heroines.
