土地醫生一找回大地生機    The Soil Doctors

這種醫生以專業行動呵護土壤一生This type of physician helps keep the planet healthy

如果你一早醒來咳嗽、喉嚨痛，你會去看醫生；不過，要是土壤生病的話，那可是求助無門！

正是這個想法促使行政院環保署採取行動；組成一支專業土地醫生團隊，專門協助解決土壤問題。

一如醫生診斷治療病患疾病一樣，土地醫生會監控土壤的健康狀態。

土壤健康至關重要，因為健康的土壤能提供動、植物良好充分棲息生長的環境。

健康土壤還可以中和有毒化學物質、保持涵養水分，並讓土壤中的廢棄物質有時間分解。

但是，土壤本身的這些能力並非毫無極限；而，這就是需要土地醫生鼎力相助的時候。

隨著全球經濟暨特定產業的蓬勃發展，土壤污染愈趨嚴重。

一般土壤污染的來源包括工廠和農場所排放的廢棄物、家庭垃圾以及農業廢料等。

廢棄物所挾帶的有毒化學物質通常會經由水被帶進農田，然後再滲入土壤；之後，這些物質便會導致農作物生產出有害糧食，亦或是造成土壤劣化以至於完全無法再種植任何作物。

If you wake up with a cough and a sore throat, you can go to the doctor. But when the soil is sick, it is not able to tell anyone! This is the concept that made the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) take action. They formed a group of professional soil doctors to help with the problem. Just as a doctor determines and treats people's illnesses, soil doctors monitor the health of dirt.

 Healthy soil is essential because it allows plants and animals to grow well. Healthy soil also neutralizes toxic chemicals, holds moisture and gives some wastes time to decay. However, its ability to do these things is not unlimited. That's when a soil

doctor is needed.

 As the world's economies and certain industries grow, so does soil pollution. Sources of this pollution or contamination include waste from factories and farms and household garbage as well as agricultural waste. Water often carries toxic chemicals from this waste into the fields where they work their way into the soil. These substances can cause plants to yield food that is harmful or cause soil deterioration which prevents crops from growing at all.

If I had a green thumb, I would plant so much.

I've always wanted to have a homestead, which is like a small farm on your house or in your backyard.

So it's kind of like an oversized garden.

I really wanted to plant my own vegetables and fruits.

So whenever I would want to cook something, I could just go to my backyard and get it.

Something else I would really want to plant is flowers.

I love fresh-cut flowers. I love to give people flowers.

And so to be able to plant them myself would be amazing.

But I... don't have a green thumb, so I can't... keep any plant alive.

If I had a green thumb, I'd probably just go to the doctor, right?

If I had a green thumb, that means I can plant something, and it would flourish, it would grow.

So I would probably plant a mango tree.

I would take good care of it.

And then I would enjoy all the mangoes I could, and I would even share with you, maybe.

So that's what I would do if I had a green thumb.
