TED這個首字母縮略詞代表了科技T、娛樂E以及設計D，內容本已相當廣泛，而現今的TED演說還納入了心理學、商業、哲學以及其他諸多領域。
TED演說由TED基金會籌辦運作；TED基金會是一個致力於分享想法點子的非營利組織，其分享方式通常就是透過強而有力的簡短演說。
首場TED大會於一九八四年舉行，不過由於沒有特別成功，因此隔年並沒有立刻再次舉辦。
六年後，TED大會創立人再次嘗試，終於獲得廣大迴響。
自此，TED大會便每年舉行，並且廣邀來自多元領域的代表與會講者。
隨著時間推進，TED基金會亦做了些許變革；該機構開始在網路上免費發布演講影片，讓講者的想法得以觸及更普遍的廣大觀眾。
世界各地受到TED啟發的民眾也紛紛開始籌辦起TEDx活動。
基本上，TEDx算是小型會議，有現場演說，也有預錄好的演講片段。

And so when we talk about enriching our lives, we're talking about maybe educating ourselves, learning something new, um, getting better at something.
Ideas are powerful, and the internet lets us access a nearly infinite number of them.
One extremely popular format for encountering cutting-edge ideas is TED Talks. These short talks by experts cover just about anything imaginable. The acronym TED stands for technology, entertainment and design, which is broad enough, but now TED Talks also cover psychology, business, philosophy and more.
TED Talks are put on by the TED Foundation, a nonprofit organization that is committed to sharing ideas, usually in the form of short powerful talks.
The first TED conference was held in 1984, but it wasn't particularly successful so was not repeated right away. Six years later, the conference's founders tried again with much greater success. Conferences have been held annually since then, and the conference's presenters became more diverse in terms of the fields represented. Over time, the TED Foundation implemented other changes. The organization began posting talks for free online to spread presenters' ideas to a broader audience.
People around the world who have been inspired by TED have also begun organizing TEDx events. These are essentially small conferences featuring both live speakers and recorded talks.

Now I think it's very important for us to be able to freely express our opinions and our ideas with other people.
So we need to listen to each other and know that everybody is equal but not every idea is equal.
