Spotting Lies and Fake News on the Internet
"Fake news" is a new term in English.
It defines news that's completely made up編造 and designed to fool混淆 people.
But fake news has been around for a long time已存在很久.
A well-known newspaper in the US, the National Enquirer國家詢問者, has been publishing false stories about famous people since 1926.
However, Americans know that this newspaper is entirely silly.
The Internet is different.
For the past 20 years, it's been easy for anyone to make an inexpensive fake-news website.
Dishonest people can post funny or alarming令人驚恐的 stories that spread quickly with their sources hidden. 沒有標清楚來源
When these articles hit刊登 Facebook, Twitter, or PTT, hundreds of thousands of people conclude that they're real without checking where the information came from.
If you suspect that a story is untrue, see if it's been repeated on news websites you trust.
But remember that news doesn't have to be fake to be misleading.
Almost every "real news" source is biased toward a political party and certain candidates.
When you read a news story, try to think about why the writer wrote it, not just what they've written about.
