if someone sets an example for you, and you’re following that example, you could say that they are your role model.
This is a beautiful city with impressive buildings, delicious food and rich history.
In fact, if you're a history buff, you'll love this city.
A history buff is someone who knows a lot about history and always enjoys learning more.
You can also use this word for other things you know a lot about like a film buff or an art buff.
But enough about buffs, let's go to Cologne.
Germany's most famous river, the Rhine, flows through Cologne.
Traveling the river by boat is a good way to admire the ancient architecture in this 2,000-year-old city.
Those two gigantic [dʒaɪˋgæntɪk] towers you see? Those belong to the Cologne Cathedral.
This is a famous site that Christian pilgrims used to visit and to pray and feel close to God.
Fun fact: the northern tower is 7 centimeters taller than the southern one.
Another spectacular sight is the Hohenzollern Bridge.
If two people are in love, they'll travel to this bridge with a lock.
Together, they put this love lock on the bridge and throw the key into the river.
Ah! This is their statement that their love will last forever. Ah, how sweet!

loanword外來語的文字
Kindergarten
Wanderlust
Zeitgeist
They're all German words that we use in English.
They're loanwords.
Yes. A loanword is exactly what it sounds like.
It's a word that's borrowed from one language to another.
So what does the word kindergarten really mean?
How did it become part of English?
In German, kinder means children, and garten means garden.
Altogether it literally means children's garden.
A German educator came up with this term "kindergarten."
He had a certain philosophy on early childhood education.
And his philosophy traveled to English-speaking
countries, and the name "kindergarten" stuck.
That's right.
It's funny how many words we use are originally another language.
Friends, think about some words you use often.
Are those words from your native language?
