自行車手須持續挖掘自我極限，才能完成世人任最為險阻的登頂路線。

他們競相騎上武嶺，朝著「自行車登山王」挑戰賽的點線挺進。

每年十月，全球數一數二頂尖的自行車好手都會前來共襄盛舉，角逐「登山王」的頭銜。

該路線由平地一路蜿蜒攀升至海拔三千二百七十五公尺的終點，總長達一百o五公里。

自從七年前我開始騎自行車，完成自行車登山挑戰賽就一直是我的目標。

每年我都認為自己必需為參賽再多做一些準備，並以此為藉口逃避參賽。

不過，當我回顧前事以往，我發現自己其實應該是可以參賽的。

騎著自行車向上攀爬對當時的我而言根本不成問題－反而是件會讓我熱血沸騰的事。

但如今卻會讓我筋疲力竭。

去年夏天，我終於決定要與幾名友人一同挑戰武嶺。

我們自行規劃的八十九公里路線，始於武嶺山腳；相較於自行車登山挑戰賽的官方路線要略短一些。

但是，其實就是這最後的十公里最為艱辛：這是最陡峭的一個坡段，也是該路線之所如此酷的原因。

Cyclists must dig deep to complete what's been called the toughest climb in the world. They race up to Wuling Peak to the finish line in the King of the Mountain (KOM) Challenge. Every October some of the world's best cyclists battle for the title. Starting at sea level, the route climbs to a height of 3,275 meters at the end, covering 105 kilometers. Ever since I started cycling seven years ago, completing the KOM climb has been a goal of mine.

Every year I thought that I needed to prepare for it and used that as my excuse. But looking back, I realize I would have been fine. Cycling uphill was no problem for me then - it was thrilling. Now it's exhausting.

Last summer I finally decided to take on Wuling with some friends. Our 89- kilometer route started at the base of the mountain and was a little shorter than the official KOM race. But it's the final 10 kilometers that are the most grueling: This is the steepest part and what makes the climb so brutal.
