Anyone who has seen The Sound of Music, winner of five Oscars, knows the delightful city of Salzburg. It has lovely buildings, some of which served as a backdrop for scenes in the Oscar-winning movie. To appreciate the marvelous buildings, you only have to stroll through the alleys of the old town.
The sounds of music in Salzburg are not just from the famous film. Mozart was born here, and the city is proud of him. You'll hear Mozart's music all over the city, and several places exist where you can find out more about him.
You can learn about the daily life of the Mozart family at the Mozart Residence. Visit Mozart's birthplace, see the room where he was born and learn about his childhood. Be sure to try the chocolate named for him: a Mozart ball!
Don't miss visiting the Salzburg Residenz. The medieval archbishops of Salzburg, who ruled the country up until the 19th century, lived in this grand palace. The staterooms are beautifully furnished. It was here that Mozart performed for the first time at age 6.

Edelweiss小白花
Edelweiss is one of my favorite songs from The Sound of Music.
The song was actually written for that musical, which also became a famous movie starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer.
Edelweiss is the name of a white wild flower that is found in Austria.
It's on one of their coins and on military uniforms.
The flower is even protected, and it's illegal to pick.
The lyrics even give a description of the flower: small and white, clean and bright.
Rodgers and Hammerstein, the writers of the song, chose edelweiss as a symbol of Austria with the song.
Because the musical and the song became so famous, many people outside of Austria have thought that Edelweiss is an Austrian folk song or even the national anthem.
In fact, not many Austrians are fans of The Sound of Music or have even seen it as it gives an inaccurate display of what Austria is truly like.
And the history was not depicted in a realistic way.
But the song and the movie bring joy in the name of entertainment to millions around the world.
And I have to say, hearing the song Edelweiss has a way of touching my heart.
