願作比翼鳥THE LIVES AND LOVES OF WHITE STORKS

從一而終，矢志不移的美麗白鸛These large, beautiful birds fascinate us 

有一個浪漫的鸛鳥故事感動了世界各地的人們，特別是住在克羅埃西亞的人。

數年來，他們熱切追蹤一隻叫作瑪蓮娜的雌鸛鳥身上所發生的事。

一九九三年時，退休警衛斯捷潘˙沃基奇在克羅埃西亞一個小村莊附近釣魚時，偶然遇見了一隻受傷的白鸛。

牠的翅膀中槍，無法飛行。

沃基奇把白鸛帶回家照顧餵養並陪在牠身邊；他們甚至還一起看電視。

二○○二年時，瑪蓮娜有了一個名叫克萊佩坦的伴侶。

十九年來，克萊佩坦每年秋天都會遷徙飛到南非，然後每年春天再回到克羅埃西亞瑪蓮娜的身邊。

人們無不焦急等待克萊佩坦回來的消息。

在這些年裡，這對長腿伴侶生養了六十六隻幼鳥。

沃基奇為牠們築巢，幫忙照顧幼鳥。

令人傷心的是，瑪蓮娜在二○二一年死去，克羅埃西亞人都哀傷不已。

沃基奇則希望克萊佩坦今年能夠再回來，然後也許牠可以再另覓新的伴侶。

瑪蓮娜和克萊佩坦的故事讓鸛鳥看起來似乎是一夫一妻制，不過這並非總是事實鸛鳥在遷徙之後可能會換伴侶。

不過誰會知道呢？

在人類的眼裡，鸛鳥看起來都一個樣！

無論鸛鳥是否結髮就是一輩子 牠們都深受眾人的喜愛。

鶇科嘯鶇屬的鳥類，為台灣特有種，屬於高山性鳥類，體型是台灣鶇科中最大者，雌雄羽色相同，全身為濃紫藍色，具有金屬光澤。 繁殖於中、低海拔山區，大抵棲息於溪流附近，尚稱普遍。繁殖期以外多單獨活動。通常出現於溪邊岩上，慢慢跳躍前進，無法飛行長距離，而善於滑翔飛行，棲止時有尾羽上下拍動的習性。

A romantic stork story has touched people around the world, especially people in Croatia. For years, they avidly followed the goings-on of a female stork named Malena. In 1993 a retired janitor, Stjepan Vokić was fishing near a small Croatian village when he came upon a wounded stork. She had been shot in the wing and could not fly. He took her home, fed her and kept her company; they even watched TV together. In 2002 Malena acquired a mate named Klepetan.

Every fall for 19 years, Klepetan would migrate to South Africa and then return to Malena in Croatia each spring.

 People would anxiously await the news of Klepetan's return. Over the years the long-legged couple raised 66 chicks. Vokić built nests for them and helped out with the chicks. Sadly, Malena passed away in 2021, and Croatians mourned. Vokić's hope is that Klepetan will return this year and perhaps find a new mate. 

Malena and Klepetan's story makes it appear that storks are monogamous, but that isn't always true. They can change mates after migration. Who's to know? To the human eye, one stork looks like another!

 Whether storks mate for life or not, they are beloved by many.
