TIPS FOR WRITING A RÉSUMÉ

Some dos and don’ts

Perhaps you are applying to colleges and need a résumé. Start with your contact

information: your full name, address, phone number and e-mail address. Follow this with a few sentences that state your objective for getting into this college.

Include why you want to study a

particular major there. Don't use the one-

size-fits-all approach that makes it look

like you are applying to several

universities. Highlight any

accomplishments that make you stand

out.

objective(n.)

Arthur’s objective for attending the seminar was to make good business contacts.

Arthur’s objective for attending the seminar was to make good business contacts.

The objective of parents should be to grow themselves out of a job.

Our sales  team didn’t meet its objective this month, so everyone needs to work harder next month..

stand out (ph v.)

Is there anything you can tell the police about the thief that makes her stand out?

Dorothy’s bright pink dress really stood out in the picture since everyone else was wearing light colors.

Adam stands out as the best salesman on our team.

associate’s degree vs. bachelor’s degree

if you... want to go to university, consider just doing a junior college or a community college for the first two years.

After that, if you stop, you get your associate's degree, and you might wanna (want to) continue and transfer over to a four-year college.

one-size-fits-all

write the book on something

Steve Jobs wrote the book on product design.

write the book on something  【負面用法】

Timothy wrote the book on being irresponsible.

reveal (v.)

After everyone gesses, Hudson will reveal the winner.

Matilda opened the curtains to reveal a bright blue sky, a sandy beach and the ocean.

responsibility  (n.)

What responsibilities did you have at your last job?

It is the responsibility of the manager to assign daily tasks.

take responsibility for 為···負責任

None of the kids took responsibility for the broken lamp.

GPA

to have vs.  hold

Well, when I hear the word "held" used in this context, it makes me think of something that I am holding in my hand or something I'm in charge of.

If you hold a position, it means that you were in charge of that position, and that is a title that belonged to you.

I think the most important part of a résumé is where you can see the person's skills and their strengths because on a résumé, you can list your degree, whether you have a bachelor's degree or a master's degree or even a PhD
