相傳，有一隻住在瓦維爾城堡下的龍，強行要求附近的鎮民供給牠食物。

於是國王懸賞廣徵任何能勇敢擊敗惡龍的人。

後來一位年輕鞋匠成功誘使龍吃下硫磺而爆炸。

國王感激不已，讚許年輕鞋匠打敗惡龍，而人民也歡欣慶祝。

這個當地傳說的象徵標誌在克拉科夫隨處可見。

While in Krakow, you may encounter an interesting symbol: The Wawel Dragon.

According to legend, a dragon living under Wawel Castle demanded that the nearby townspeople give him food. The king offered a prize to anyone brave enough to defeat the dragon. A young shoemaker tricked the dragon into eating sulfur, which caused the creature to explode. The grateful king praised the youth for defeating the dragon, and the people celebrated.

Signs of this local legend are noticeable throughout Krakow. See the Wawel Dragon statue by the Vistula River.

Many Krakow souvenirs also bear a dragon symbol. You can also tour the dragon's cave in Wawel Castle. The dragon legend is just for fun, but Krakow also celebrates the heroic efforts of Oskar Schindler. During World War II, he saved around 1,200 Jews from the Nazis by recruiting them for his factory.

Today the factory is a museum. It shares the history of life in Krakow under the

Nazis and how people survived.
