THE HARDING FAMILY'S METHOD
Sending kids to college by the age of 13
The method
The Harding method focuses on cultivating a few core skills: math, reading and writing. Children are encouraged to complete two math lessons every day. They also write something every day, and their parents review what they have written with them to correct any errors. The kids also spend copious amounts of time reading, and they learn history and science through the books they read. Once the children develop an interest in a particular subject, they read more and more books in that area.
Socially, the Harding family encouraged their children to be kids and make friends with others their own age. For example, they met up with friends every Friday afternoon while growing up.
The Harding family's method is a bit controversial, though. In one poll, 93 percent of participants said they would not want to follow the Harding family's example.
Perhaps they don't see the urgency of making their children rush into college so young. But the success of the Harding children shows that their method worked for them.
Young people are capable of achieving more than people often think. By focusing on the basics and encouraging children to follow their passion, the Harding family has achieved amazing results.
