機器人頂級賽事WHO CAN BUILD A BETTER ROBOT?

機器人競賽的重點不只在於機器人Robotics competitions are about more than just robots

當前有數十項機器人競賽，聚集了大批年輕機器人設計師。

只要在谷歌稍微搜尋一下，就會發現數量多得超乎你想像的機器人賽事。

最知名的一個國際機器人組織就是FIRST，該首字母縮略詞的涵義為「對科學技術的啟發與表彰」。

FIRST由狄恩·卡門創立，是一套課程；由經驗豐富的導師指導機器人技術團隊成員利用機器人找出各種問題的創新解決方案。

如同所有機器人課程一般，FIRST也強調團隊合作以及社群建構。

他們的其中一項核心價值，就是「合作性競爭」這個新造的詞語—結合了相互尊重的合作以及激烈競爭的態勢。

機器人大賽已然成為一種全球性的現象。

將近一百萬名學生與超過一百個國家透過包括FIRST、VEX、Botball以及機器人世界盃等各種組織參與機器人賽事。

在國際機器人競賽場上，來自世界各地的隊伍互相較量，竭盡全力彼此競爭，但同時也享受極大樂趣並建立起跨文化的友誼。

狄恩‧卡門分享了學生從機器人技術研究當中所學到的一項寶貴經驗:「大部分的時候，你都會失敗，但是偶爾也會成功；這些偶爾獲得的成功會使得所有努力與犧牲都值得。

 Nowadays there are dozens of robotics competitions that are swarming with young robot designers. A quick Google search will uncover more robotics events than you can imagine. One of the most well-known international robotics organizations is FIRST, an acronym which means For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology.

Founded by Dean Kamen, FIRST is a program in which experienced mentors guide robotics team members in finding innovative solutions to problems by using robots. Like all robotics programs, FIRST emphasizes teamwork and building community. One of their core values is the made-up word "coopertition" — a blend of respectful

cooperation and intense competition.

Robotics competitions have become a worldwide phenomenon. Nearly a million students and more than 100 countries compete in robotics events through a variety of organizations, such as FIRST, VEX, Botball and RoboCup. At international robotics competitions, teams from around the world match up against each other to compete furiously, but to have fun and form cross-cultural friendships, too. Dean Kamen shares a valuable lesson that students learn from robotics: "Most of the time you will fail, but you will also occasionally succeed. These occasional successes make all the hard work and sacrifice worthwhile." Clearly, robots can make great teachers.
