GREGORY BURNS
This incredible artist is succeeding in spite of challenges
Gregory Burns lives life to the fullest!
This internationally celebrated artist and motivational speaker has run a marathon,
climbed both Malaysia's Mount Kinabalu and Taiwan's Jade Mountain, and much more. He has had many triumphs in his life despite the fact that he had polio as a child. Almost from the beginning, Burns did not let the disease stand in his way when achieving his goals. Today, he inspires others to look beyond their difficulties.
When Burns was a year old, he was diagnosed with polio, and he lost the use of his legs. In 1962, his doctor said, "The best thing for a kid with polio would be to swim in a warm-water pool." Burns' father was a diplomat, and the family was living in Washington, D.C. The only warm-water pool they could find was at the White House. So, arrangements were made for the boy to go there and swim. In the water, he felt a freedom that he didn't experience anywhere else.
In 1977 Burns discovered the Paralympic Games. He spent the next 27 years in international swimming competitions, some of which resulted in five world records.
