The Old Man and the Sea

Santiago is an old fisherman.

In the last 84 days, though, he didn't catch a single fish.

His partner is Manolin, a young boy.

Santiago is teaching Manolin about fishing.

Manolin's parents don't approve of their relationship.

"Santiago is too unlucky," they say.

"You should find a better master to learn from."高手；專家；主人

Manolin doesn't care, though. 毫不在意

He helps Santiago because he likes the old man and feels bad for him.

They eat together and talk about baseball.

Santiago feels down, but he won't give up. 感覺沮喪

He is confident and believes one day soon, his luck will turn around. 他很有自信，而且相信在不遠的某一天，他的運氣會好轉

On the 85th day, Santiago heads out to sea alone獨自.

He sails his boat far out into the ocean. 他將他的船駛入遙遠的大海中

He drops his fishing line deep in the water and waits.

At noon, Santiago feels a strong pull on his fishing rod. Santiago感覺到有一股很強的力量在拉他的魚竿

He tries to bring the fish in, but he can't move it. 他嘗試把魚拉回來，但是他卻拉不動牠

The fish is very powerful, and it starts pulling his boat. 這隻魚非常有力，於是牠開始拉扯他的船

He thinks to himself, "This must be the biggest marlin in the sea!" 這條魚一定是這個海域裡面最大的槍魚

Santiago can't tie the fish to his boat because it will break破壞船身.

So, he uses every muscle in his body to bring it in. 他使用全身上下每一塊肌肉的力量把牠抓起來

I don’t like go out alone at night. I don’t feel safe.

After three days of fighting, the marlin gets tired.

Santiago pulls it close and kills it with a harpoon.

He thinks, "My bad luck is finally over!" 我的不幸終於要結束了

"Wait until everyone sees my amazing catch!" 等著所有人看見我驚人的成果吧

Soon after, sharks smell the marlin's blood and follow the boat. 不久之後，鯊魚群聞到了槍魚血的味道，於是牠們緊跟著Santiago的船

Santiago tries to fight them off, but they eat the marlin.

Santiago only brings the fish's giant bones back. 巨大骨頭

He is very tired, so he doesn't tell anyone the story about the marlin. 他感到非常疲倦，所以他沒有告訴任何人有關這條槍魚的故事

Manolin sees Santiago and brings him coffee and a newspaper. 替他端了一杯咖啡以及一份報紙

Santiago falls asleep and dreams of lions at play on a beach. Santiago沉沉睡去，並夢到獅子們在一片海灘上玩耍

The skeletal system consists of more than bones

any of the hard parts inside a human or animal that make up its frame

The child was so thin that you could see her bones.

這孩子瘦得可憐，都能看見她的骨頭。
