The Invention of Hugo Cabret
A boy whose survival depends on secrets
Hugo believes he has finished repairing the automaton but needs a special key to wind it up. He sees a heart-shaped key around Isabelle's neck and knows it will work. He steals the necklace and runs off, but Isabelle follows him back to his room.
He inserts the key into the automaton, and they watch as it draws a picture. It's from A Trip to the Moon, which was Hugo's father's favorite movie. When the drawing is finished, the automaton signs it Georges Melies.
Intrigued, Hugo visits a film library and finds a book with a picture of the scene the automaton drew. He discovers that the toy maker is actually a famous filmmaker that everyone thinks is dead. Hugo, Isabelle and some friends go to Georges' house to show him what Hugo found, and Georges confesses his past. He asks to see the automaton, and Hugo sprints to the train station to get it. Nearly struck by a train, Hugo is saved at the last minute. Hugo then tells everyone his story, and Papa Georges and his wife decide to adopt Hugo, and they become a happy family.
