絕美五鄉地Exploring Cinque Terre

里奧馬焦雷

里奧馬焦雷是「五鄉地」最南邊的村莊。

同名城堡座落矗立於村莊上方的山丘，是欣賞海景的最佳地點。

Via dell' Amore「愛之路」，便開始於里奧馬焦雷；這條一公里長的浪漫小徑以壯觀景色聞名，且能通往下一個村莊一馬納羅拉。

馬納羅拉

馬納羅拉色彩繽紛的屋舍紛紛面向大海，狹窄陡峭的小街則引領旅人走下山丘。

抵達山下後，你會看到一個義大利語為piazza的小廣場，那裡有幾間海鮮餐廳，能讓人恣意品嘗美味的章魚或淡菜料理。

Any trip to Italy should include stops in Rome, Florence and Venice. But Italy is more than just big cities, cathedrals and famous works of art. The country is jam-packed with good food and beautiful scenery, especially in Cinque Terre, the Five Lands. These five lovely hillside towns, Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso, sit high above the Italian Riviera. You can take a train or the local ferry to get to each one, but hiking is the best way to experience them. The trails that connect them are spectacular.

Riomaggiore

This is the southernmost village of Cinque Terre. The Castle of Riomaggiore, perched on a hill above the village, is the best place to enjoy a view of the sea. The Via dell' Amore, Lovers' Lane, begins in Riomaggiore. This kilometer-long romantic path is famous for its magnificent views and leads to the next village, Manarola.

Manarola

Here colorful houses face the sea, and steep narrow alleys lead you down to it. Once there, you'll find a small square, or piazza, with seafood restaurants where you can try delicious octopus or mussel dishes.

cathedral vs. church

cathedrals are al lot more decorated on the inside, and perhaps on the outside.

I think of the catholic天主教 religion when I think of cathedrals. And I think of Christianity基督教 when I think of churches.

However, the definition is a little different than that. In a cathedral, it’s presided over; there’s one bishop主教 in charge in a cathedral. And with a church, it’s usually a group of people who are in charge, maybe a group of priests or something like that.

But many English words get their roots from Latin, including Mediterranean.

The first part of the word comes from the Latin word for middle, medius.

And the second part, terra, means earth.

So it is literally the sea in the middle of the land.

That's an accurate description.

And now you mentioned it, "terra" shows up in a lot of English words like rice terraces.

And territory. These are all words that have to do with land or earth.
